Christopher Uminga

I first ran into Chris Uminga's work off of a pop up ad that I generally hate.  The kind of clickbait link that has you loading a fresh page of ads for each of the 19 images you want to see.  that is a testament to Uminga's work, as I got pulled into it despite the slow loads.

I'd describe his art style as Tim Burton if he were into geek culture.  Uminga's pupil-less, slightly dark, and always adorable illustrations hit that special love I have for creepy adorable artwork.  I made a point to meet with him at a convention and grabbed an un-cropped print of the very scarecrow image you see above.  I also nabbed a Captain America print from my sister that she got from him at the same con.  Since I bought that image a few years back, Chris has updated his style and gotten better at adding more detail to his chibi characters without taking away from their simple designs.
