Awolnation - Sail

Every decade has a rise and fall of music genres, and it's amazing to see how far alternative rock has fallen from the incredible and bleak era of the 90s.  Though a lot of purists won't consider Awolnation's 'Sail' as real alternative rock, I would say that it's close enough given the dismal state of alternative music nowadays.

'Sail' is Awolnations first single and inarguably their most successful song to date.  The whole song is predicated on a single catchy hook and chord progression and does not stray from it in the slightest.  Where this would normally make a repetitive and boring song, this is the exception because the hook is just that good.  Throw in a faded desperate voice and distortion and you have yourself a hit.  The overall feel of the song is slow and moody that lends itself perfectly as a strip club anthem .

I haven't yet checked out their recent album release 'Run', but it's quite clear that the band has their work cut out for them in making something as interesting as their debut single.
