Lore Podcast
A relatively new podcast, Lore has quickly become one that I look forward to every two weeks. Hosted by Aaron Mahnke, Lore is essentially a series of campside scary stories backed by a lot of research. Whether steeped in the paranormal or recounting horrific true events, Lore podcast delivers on all fronts.
A horror novelist, Mahnke has is a natural storyteller and unravels the episodes in a way to keep the listener engaged. The stories are paced out perfectly, and never seem to drag out or wrap up too quickly. Lore sets up the show with just the right amount of information to keep the listener invested and gives a great payoff at the end. Because Lore tells spooky stories in a general sense, each story can be very different from one episode to the next. Memorable episodes include a play by play of an infamous and unknown axe murderer from the early 1900s to a recounting of a horrific haunted pit.
Lore is well produced and the episodes are consistently of high quality. The creepy stories contain horror, but the overall goal seems to give a lasting creepy feeling as opposed to providing shock value with detailed gore. Lore has filled in a perfect niche in podcast that was missing. Instead of amateur conversation on horror topics found in other podcasts, Lore provides well produced sound, deeply researched facts, and high caliber storytelling.
