Sonic the Hedgehog 2
If you couldn't tell by all of my SNES picks, I was always a Nintendo kid. Back in the 90s, it was clear that I had picked the winning team. Still, I would go to my friend's house and we would play his Sega Genesis quite a bit. There were a lot of great Genesis games, but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 captured our hearts in a very specific way.
We were both Chinese kids, so we would watch my Cantonese dubbed Dragonball Z shows and movies on VHS tapes. Then the magical day came where he found out that Sonic could go super saiyan, and our tiny little minds exploded. Of course, Sonic 2 didn't SAY super saiyan, but we knew the score. The process involved getting all the chaos emeralds in the bonus stages which was annoying, and with no access to the internet it was a while before we found the cheat for it.
When we finally did get the golden Sonic, we didn't actually play much longer. By that time, we'd already have been passing the controller back and forth trying to blow through the levels. Still, even after more than two decades time, I remember how cool and satisfying super (saiyan) Sonic was.
