Marvel - Civil War
After my first landmark experience with comics, I became struck with the comic fever that plagues me still today. I went to my local comic shop and asked for some suggestions. It was fate that I got just the right employee to guide me through the world of comics. He suggested Civil War, but warned that it was deeply entrenched in the Marvel U. I decided to dive in fully and read it anyways. This was a story of hero vs. hero that touches on the consequences of a world of super powered vigilantes. Now, Civil War probably isn't the best book for introducing brand new readers, but it was an important book in many ways. It marked the new age of the crossovers and remains an important part of the Marvel history. That and It's a damned good book. Despite the zillions of bad tie-ins (a few of which I've pieced together from the 50 cent bins), Mark Millar's writing on the main book is solid if not controversial. The beautiful art was done by Steven McNiven.
