The Hush Sound
Taking a break from the Hip Hop and Electronic music, today’s post is about Chicago’s indie band ‘The Hush Sound’. On a recommendation from a co-worker, I started eating through their albums on repeat. The songs can be hit or miss, as with most indie bands, but with three albums to their name, The Hush Sound has their fair share of great songs. Their sound is hard to peg down as they provide an eclectic range of music, even within the same album.
Choosing a favourite song from The Hush Sound to post was hard, but when I first heard ‘Lighthouse’, time froze and I was sucked in from the first few piano keys. The music presents a haunting ambiance with waltz timing that brings a dark yet somehow hopeful mood throughout the song. The lyrics paint beautiful imagery, and tells an eerie ghost story that carries an air of mystery and romance in a way that still inspires me today. I still really love this song, and it always gets my undivided attention when it’s playing. The band has gotten back together a couple years ago after a long hiatus, so I look forward to seeing new stuff from them.
