Aluna George - Your Drums, Your Love
I figured that with the success of DJ Snake's remix of 'You Know You Like It', I would shed some light on my favourite Aluna George track. When I first heard of the duo, I was still deep into Flume. Synthy and ambiant with a strong beat, 'Your Drums, Your Love' quickly stood out for me. I went to find their discography and found their one and only 2013 release 'Body Music', which I bought immediately.
Aluna George is a UK duo consisting of Aluna Francis and George Reid. From what I can tell, Aluna is easily the face for the group. A quick search will bring up the spot-light ready beautiful Aluna with some awkward looking white dude. That being said, I actually feel Aluna is the less interesting of the two. She can definitely sing, but I feel she lacks signature flourishes that prevent the tracks to bleed into each other like they do on the album.
George Reid, however, experiments with distorted vocals and bursts of warped samples while still keeping a mainstream vibe. I admit that Aluna helps with balancing out his weirdness, but it was definitely the bizarre back beats that grabbed my attention. The best example of his work is in the intro/chorus to the aforementioned 'Your Drums, Your Love'.
